I was looking for a good way to mount the 10-inch monitor I use when towing my fifth wheel. The monitor lets me view my fifth-wheel hitch while hooking up, keep an eye on the trailer, and see what is behind me in real time while traveling. The biggest thing I wanted was a mounting system that was solid while towing but would also allow me to easily remove the monitor when I wasn’t using it.
After watching a ton of YouTube videos and doing quite a bit of Internet research, I decided on the RubiGrid® GMC Sierra + Chevrolet Silverado Dash Mount from BulletPoint, and I’m very happy with the decision.
Installation was very straightforward. One thing Chevrolet 2500 Custom owners should know is that you will need to drill six small holes in the dash storage tray. BulletPoint includes the correct drill bit, which is a nice touch. You also remove the factory rubber tray liner during installation. The good news is that if you ever decide to remove the RubiGrid, you can put the liner back in and the holes will be completely hidden.
I used a 90-degree drill to make the holes because clearance between the tray and windshield is a little tight. Other than that, the installation was simple. I would say the entire job took me about an hour.
I ordered the RubiGrid base with both a phone mount and a mount for my 10-inch monitor. I also ordered a longer arm for the monitor, which gives me a little more flexibility in positioning it exactly where I want it.
Once installed, the system looks great and, more importantly, it is extremely sturdy. My monitor is fairly large, and I wanted something that wasn’t going to bounce around while driving or towing. The BulletPoint system handles it very well. I can also quickly remove the monitor when I’m not towing, which was one of my main requirements.
Another thing I like about the RubiGrid is the ability to expand it. I still have room to add another phone mount, dash camera, or other accessories later without having to redesign the whole setup.
With the RubiGrid base, phone mount, monitor/tablet mount, longer arm, and the other mounting hardware, I have right around $200 invested in the complete setup. That certainly isn’t the cheapest dash mount available, but in my opinion it is well worth the money.
If you’re looking for a clean, professional-looking mounting system for your Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra that can securely hold your phone, tablet, monitor, cameras, or other gadgets, I don’t think you can go wrong with the BulletPoint RubiGrid system.
For my towing setup, it does exactly what I wanted it to do.
