Well it’s only February 13. Yes… a Friday. Because of course it is.
Three weeks ago I was pretty sure southern Illinois had broken off and drifted north into Canada. Twelve inches of snow. Temperatures that stayed below freezing for what felt like 280 straight hours. I started pricing sled dogs and learning the metric system just in case. ❄️
And now? The last ten days have been downright suspicious. Sunshine. Above average temps. Next week flirting with 70 degrees like it forgot what month it is. The birds are chirping. The snow shovel is giving me dirty looks from the corner of the garage. Spring fever has officially kicked the door in.
So here’s what’s happening. The big purge begins. This weekend I’m dragging the camper out of storage. Not full dewinterize mode yet, I’m not that brave. But I’m pulling it out, popping the slides, stepping inside, and letting myself daydream about mid March and that first camping trip. I might even sit in there with a cup of coffee and pretend I hear a campground generator humming in the distance. 🌄
Now listen… if southern Illinois suddenly gets hit with a freak snowstorm, an Arctic blast, or some kind of weather event that makes the Weather Channel people start pacing dramatically in front of a map… that’s on me. I take full responsibility. Apparently just moving the camper 12 feet triggers a cold front.
But I refuse to let winter win. We’re close. You can feel it. The air smells different. The days are stretching out a little longer. The grill is starting to whisper my name.
Anybody else battling spring fever slash cabin fever? Or is it just me out here tempting Mother Nature with a camper and a dream? 🌞🚐
