Let’s go back three years. At the time, we were camping in our trusty little Sunray 109 teardrop camper — lots of great memories in that thing. Because space was at a premium, I was on the hunt for a compact two-burner stove. I knew I wanted power and control, but also something small enough to fit neatly in the teardrop’s limited storage.
Now, I tend to overthink gear purchases (my wife would probably say that’s an understatement), so naturally I dove deep into research. The old reliable Coleman two-burner was the front-runner for a while — until YouTube decided to tempt me. Up popped a video of the JetBoil Genesis Basecamp.
At first glance, I thought, “Okay, this looks pretty cool.” Then I saw how it folded up compactly — huge selling point when you’re working with teardrop space. The video showed two independently controlled burners, each capable of serious heat but also precise simmer control. Add in the included FluxPot, frying pan, and carrying case, and I was hooked.
Then came the Amazon price check. Cue the sticker shock: about $300. Ouch. But after more research, reading reviews, and watching countless videos, I finally decided to go for it.
And here we are three years and hundreds of cooks later, and I can honestly say it’s still one of the best camping purchases I’ve ever made. It still performs like new — lights instantly, the burners are smooth and consistent, and the pot and pan have held up great. The handles are still tight, and it still packs up just as neatly as day one.
Performance-wise? It’s a beast. Each burner can crank up to 10,000 BTUs, and it’ll boil a liter of water in just over three minutes using the FluxPot. From boiling water to simmering soup or frying up breakfast in the pan, this stove does it all.
Bonus tip: if you own a Lodge griddle, it fits perfectly across both burners for an instant griddle setup.
Bottom line — if anything ever happened to my Genesis Basecamp, I’d be online ordering a new one the very next day.
Compact, powerful, reliable, and still going strong after three years — this thing has absolutely earned its spot as one of my all-time favorite camping items.
